Abstract

Wer soziale Gerechtigkeit im Sozialstaat einfordert, muss die normative Bewertung der Legitimität einer Verteilung knapper Ressourcen weltanschaulich begründen. Konkurrierende Ergänzungen des Effizienzprinzips kennzeichnen die aktuell diskutierten alternativen Theorien sozialer Gerechtigkeit. Deren Defizite in Kohärenz, Konsistenz und Implementierbarkeit werden in einer kritischen Gegenüberstellung offensichtlich. Die Alternative dazu fußt in der von den Gründervätern Sozialer Marktwirtschaft vertretenen und vom indischen Nobelpreisträger Amartya Sen neu entdeckten sozialhumanistischen Idee. Sie leitet neo-aristotelisch die soziale Gerechtigkeit aus einer Symbiose von Effizienz und der Entfaltung menschlicher Natur ab. Damit sind die normativ individualistischen Alternativen ebenso herausgefordert wie die Ideen von John Rawls.

Social Politics Before a Paradigm Shift. The Humanistic Welfare-state Idea

Those who call for more social justice in the welfare state must base the normative justifications for a re-distribution of scarce resources on clear principles. The economic principle of efficiency must be added to alternative philosophical arguments to form a theory of social justice. Their deficits in coherence, consistency and assessments of what is practically feasible are made apparent if they are critically juxtaposed. The alternative builds on the social humanistic ideas represented by the founding fathers of the social market economy, or ‘Soziale Marktwirtschaft‘, as well as by Amartya Sen, the Nobel Prize-winning Indian scholar. These ideas recall the narrow and symbiotic link between efficiency and a developed human nature. This, in turn, draws out the normative individualistic aternatives as well as the ideas espoused by John Rawls.
