Abstract
Securing Skilled Workers in Nursing in the Face of Demographic Change in Rhineland-Palatinate – "Ausbildungsstättenplanung„ in the Training of Health Care Professionals
Due to demographic change, the number of people in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP, Rheinland-Pfalz) who will require health services and care in the future is increasing. A frequently bemoaned skills shortage is already causing attrition in care today. The state"s Ministry for Social Affairs, Labour, Health and Demography is implementing the "Ausbildungsstättenplanung Rheinland-Pfalz„ in the period from 2011 to 2016 to the aim of this safe-guarding measure in the health care sector is to counteract a future depletion of skilled professionals. The interim evaluation of the scheme found that it achieved a degree of fulfilment of 11 % in the school year of 2012/2013, and of 23 % in the school year of 2013/2014. In expert interviews, the relevant stakeholders of health care in RLP named various aspects as reasons for this low level of goal achievement. Especially the declining quality and quantity of candidates for a health and nursing education, the financial framework and the unattractive employment conditions are responsible for the non-cumulative training numbers.
