Abstract
The canonical ban on abortion
The essay discusses the basis and legal content of the strict ban on abortion from the perspective of Catholic canon law. Walking through church (legal) history shows the continuity with which the church holds on to the sanctity of life and defends an absolute protection of life. That is why the church sanctions abortion with the maximum penalty of excommunication in the current code of law. With these lines of tradition, which are deeply rooted in the faith and law of the Church, and a strong argument based on rational law, the essay also aims to provide fruitful arguments for the legal-political discourse on the protection of life.
