Abstract

Das Wort iki wird in Japan auch heute noch alltäglich gebraucht. Dieser Begriff ist in der Edo-Zeit entstanden und gilt als ein Schlüsselbegriff für Kultur und Kunst zu jener Zeit seit dem Erscheinen des berühmten Texts des japanischen Philosophen Baron Kuki Shûzô (1888–1941). In der vorliegenden Arbeit möchte ich gerne vorschlagen, iki als Interaktions- und Individualitätssemantik zu interpretieren und eine differenzierungstheoretischen These vertreten, dass das Auftreten dieser Semantik in der Edo-Zeit die Ausdifferenzierung von Interaktion und Gesellschaft zu jener Zeit auszeichnet. Zum Schluss möchte ich auf die Parallelität des iki-Begriffs mit dem französischen honnête-Begriff hinweisen.

Abstract

The word iki is still used as a commonplace in contemporary Japan. This Word originated in the Edo period and it is considered as a key concept for the culture and the art at that time since the publication of the famous book of the Japanese philosopher Baron Kuki Shûzô (1888–1941). In this paper I would like to interpret iki as the semantics of interaction and individuality and to suggest that the occurrence of these semantics represents the differentiation of interaction and society at that time. Finally, I would like to point out the similarity between the iki-concept in Japan and that of honnête in France.
