Abstract
If migrants have the intention to return to their home countries, their consumption behavior in the host country is conditioned on characteristics of this future location. An analysis of migrants' savings behavior therefore necessitates modeling both return- and consumption plans simultaneously. This paper develops a theoretical framework where the return point is treated as endogenous. The analysis shows that endogenization of return changes some qualitative results. The endogenization of the return point is particularly important if using the model as a basis for empirical work.
