Abstract
This study considers the nexus between import pressure and changes in the structure of employment in 26 manufacturing industries in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1976 and 1983. We look at changes in the proportion of skilled labour and in the proportion of employees working in production oriented services (e. g. research and development or marketing) and test for influences of import pressure and varions adjustment strategies. The estimated regression models are subjected to a number of diagnostic tests.
