Abstract

Publications of OECD, the Council of Europe and the Conference of European Ministers of Education have recommended in recent years educational reforms, termed „Recurrent Education“. An investigation of this reform concept shows that its main purpose is to revise the concentration of systematic learning in the period of youth and the tendency to prolong this period. Instead, possibilities for learning during the period of gainful occupation (including paied leave of absence) are to be extended. Analysis of these proposals under economic aspects points to some weaknesses in the argumentation, calling for further research into the basic assumptions
