Abstract

The Role of Gold in the International Monetary System. On the Report by the Executive Directors of the IMF on Reform of the International Monetary System

The statements, suggestions and observations presented in the report, both on gold functions and discrepancy between private and official gold price, are analysed and commented. The author wants to show that reconsidering the role of gold appears particularly important in a moment, in which the existing unity of world economy is seriously menaced to be broken up into blocks in the case some of the Western countries should let culminate their individual gold policies in separation producing acts. Could the world so be divided further on account of different views on the role gold should play, the author develops how gold could, on the other side, also become a catalysator for the establishment of true global economic relations
