Abstract
Numerous regulations in German labour and corporate law are directly or indirectly aimed at protecting unborn life. These regulations safeguard the health of the child, and at the same time its life, by encouraging the mother’s decision to bring the child into the world. This applies especially to the fragile phase of life during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Not only in terms of legal policy, but also in terms of constitutional law, the state should make even greater financial efforts to protect life in the first weeks of pregnancy – for example, by bringing forward child subsidies (e. g. Kindergeld) from the beginning of pregnancy or through state-subsidised models of adoption.
