Abstract

The essay revisits and revises the idea of theoretical reason, examining the connection between theory and experience. In the context modern political theory and philosophy of science, the inquiry shows that here theory, experience and the understanding of their interrelation are based on unexamined commonplaces. Thus, we need to re-examine those principles and the project of theoretical reason. A critical elaboration demonstrates the need to base the project on a multi-dimensional concept of experience. This way it becomes clear that theory itself is a specific form of experience. From this, this essay unfolds the project of a renewal of theoretical reason and outlines its claims, tasks, and methods.
