Abstract
Die Diskussion um monetäre Zuwendungen zur Aktivierung von freiwilligem Engagement ist ungebrochen aktuell. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden Chancen und Risiken der Monetarisierung am Beispiel Freiwilliger aus der ambulanten Pflege und dem Umweltschutz diskutiert. Die Betrachtung basiert vorrangig auf einer quantitativen Befragung zu Motiven und Erwartungen der Engagierten. Es zeigt sich, dass für beide Engagementgruppen monetäre Anreize von geringer Bedeutung sind. Dominierend sind altruistische Motive und intrinsische Anreize. Dabei ist der Wille, politische Verantwortung zu übernehmen bei Freiwilligen im Umweltschutz stärker ausgeprägt. Dagegen sind die Wahrung von Tradition und Gemeinsinn für Freiwillige aus der ambulanten Pflege charakteristisch.
Money Is Time? The Importance Of Monetary Incentives For Volunteers In Outpatient Care And Environmental Protection
The discussion about financial contributions as an instrument to enable volunteering is still up to date. In this context this paper shows the opportunities and the risks of such “monetarisation”, which are then debated for the volunteering sectors of home care and environmental protection. The analysis is based on a quantitative survey regarding motives and expectations of volunteers. It reveals for both sectors that financial incentives have only slight influence. In this paper, we show that altruistic motives and intrinsic incentives dominate volunteers’ motivation instead. On the one hand, volunteers in environmental protection tend to show more willingness to shoulder political responsibility. On the other hand, volunteers in home care favour the preservation of tradition and community spirit.
