Abstract
Over the course of recent global crises phenomena and financial market failures, as well as the increasing virulence of individual and societal risks related to modern monetary and financial economies, the debate on the financial education agenda has intensified. Teaching basic economic and financial knowledge as well as promoting the necessary skills does not only serve in a functional sense of coping with financially challenging situations. Instead, projects and measures of financial education should also contribute to a self-determined lifestyle and to improving social participation. This article aims to introduce the fundamentals of financial education and addresses the variety of existing concepts, goals and challenges related to the area of financial learning and its problems.
