The review journal Das Historisch-Politische Buch (HPB) was established in 1953 and is edited by Jürgen Elvert on behalf of the Ranke Gesellschaft, Vereinigung für Geschichte im öffentlichen Leben e.V.
More than 1.000 international scholars contribute to the journal on a regular basis and review over a 1.000 current publications annually. While focusing on History and Political Science the HPB covers neighbouring disciplines as well. The journal provides reliable and crucial guidance for scholars, archivists, librarians, booksellers and the interested public. In concise articles, the reviews summarize the content of the book, comment on the subject and place them in the research context.
Since issue 66/2018 the HPB is published quarterly.
